Lyrics:

Talking’s only easy when there’s something to say

I always find it harder to be heard when all your thoughts are in the way

But I’ll try

And I’ll change

Change your mind

So let me show you

‘Cause I’m right in front of you

But something’s blocking your view

Just let me help you

‘Cause I’m not gonna let you listen to someone else

The days are getting shorter yet you still waste more time

I’m always there

I help you up

Yet all your words keep running through my mind

But I’ll try

And I’ll change

Change your mind

So let me show you

‘Cause I’m right in front of you

But something’s blocking your view

Just let me help you

‘Cause I’m not gonna let you listen to someone else

I-I keep on, giving more chances

And I-I take it, ‘cause it’s for more than just me

So let me show you

‘Cause I’m right in front of you

But something’s blocking your view

Just let me help you

‘Cause I’m not gonna let you listen to someone else

But I’ll try

And I’ll change

Change your mind

What Does This Mean?

First Verse:

“Talking’s only easy when there’s something to say” This refers to the fact that when you don’t know how to express how you feel, talking and speaking your mind is often difficult.

“I always find it harder to be heard when all your thoughts are in the way” This builds off the last line and means that when someone is explaining their points of views to another, but the other person is only thinking with their biases and not trying to hear the other person out, the person speaking can have a harder time getting their point across. I have found that listening to other people, even when you don’t agree with them, is important just to hear their side.

Pre Chorus:

“But I’ll try/And I’ll change /Change your mind” In the past I have had conversations with people who were very close minded and not very accepting. While this very frustrating for me, the only thought that went through my head was that I wanted to change their mind and explain to them how I felt and why I felt the way I did. Even if my talking didn’t change their opinions, I still wanted to be heard.

Chorus:

“So let me show you/‘Cause I’m right in front of you/But something’s blocking your view” This was me saying how I wanted to show them what I was thinking and feeling but they just let their opinions and views stand in the way of any communication or understanding.

“Just let me help you/‘Cause I’m not gonna let you listen to someone else”  This is me saying that I feel so strongly about this that you should let me explain to you how I feel and why I think the things I do before you just brush me off and listen to someone else’s ideas.

Second Verse:

“The days are getting shorter yet you still waste more time” This was a line to explain the length of time it was taking to get my point across and how the other person was just dancing over the subject and not actually trying to listen.

“I’m always there/I help you up” This is me saying that I am trying my best to be respectful of how they feel and to help them understand where I’m coming from without offending them.

“Yet all your words keep running through my mind” This goes off of the last line. It is me saying how I’m trying to be respectful but they aren’t being respectful back and it is frustrating.

Bridge:

” I-I keep on, giving more chances/And I-I take it, ‘cause it’s for more than just me” This is me saying that I’m going to continue to try to speak to you even though you are consistently being close minded because I feel that it is important that you understand where I am coming from. More than just me feels this way.

What are you arguing?

This whole song is based off of past arguments I have had with people about gender equality and why it is so important. I am very passionate about gender equality and the fight for women’s rights. Women only make 79 cents to the dollar. That is at most and for mostly white women. Minorities make even less at some jobs. There are many biases in the workplace as well like when a man is to the point and wants to do his job he is called “a leader” or “determined”, but when a women acts the same way she is considered “bossy” or “rude”. Luckily, with social media and with more word being spread, people are becoming more aware of these inequalities and are beginning to address them. I attended the women’s march in Los Angeles in January and it was one of the most remarkable experiences I have ever had. Seeing over 700,000 people march to peacefully protest what they believe in and seeing overwhelming acceptance was really amazing. Events like this make impacts and can really change the inequalities, especially since thousands of marches happened across the world. In conclusion, this song was created to show that change is possible and if you find someone who really believes differently than you, whether that is for gender equality or other social issues, try talking to them to show them your side and listen to them to understand why they feel a certain way. You might learn something and they might begin to agree with you.

I LOVE YOUR PRESENTATION!!! Gender equality is such an important concept, and your song is so amazing with the lyrics from times you’ve stood up for yourself. This is truly great and inspiring!

I really like the rhythm to your song – it sounds like marching! The Women’s March is the most powerful protest I’ve ever been a part of, so I’m really glad to see it as the central theme of your presentation. Thank you for raising awareness and pouring your heart and soul into such moving art!
