Climate Change has always been something that I’ve been passionate about. Today, climate change is crucial because the actions that we make today that affect the environment in the world are what the future generations will have to live in. Using the Catalyst Conference is a great way to branch out into different communities all over the world. The change starts within our own communities and if it is possible to expand ideas into other communities in the world, ideas and knowledge of Climate Change can spread rapidly. I have volunteered at the zoo and at the zoo we would talk to people from all over Seattle and talk to them about climate change. This is a good start, however, I would like to expand to places around the world and share my ideas because I feel that it would make a bigger impact and I could receive different varieties of reactions and ideas from people outside of my community.

The Problem:

The problem is climate change. Throughout the world around 50 billion metric tons of Greenhouse gases are being poured into our atmosphere polluting the world and warming the world and increasing natural disasters. The increase of temperature drastically increases chances of natural disasters. Forest Fires are constantly increasing due to the heat. Hurricanes and Tornados occur due to the drastic change of temperature, and thus increase in winds.

All these natural occurrences derive from Natural Disasters

The problem I will be deciding through my project will be using game theory and research decide what are the best options in order to prevent Climate Change from increasing. There will be several components in the project: the time that we have, the resources we have etc. ultimately I will find some sort of mixed strategy dominance that will be able to tell the world what steps should be taken to solve climate change.

Matrix:

Players:

Player 1: The first players are the people. The People play an important role in how they influence climate change and what happens in this world. Their main values are personal safety, security, and health.

Player 2: The second player is the government. The government plays an important role in deciding what laws to make in respect to climate change and what they support. Their main values are re-election and overall moral good.

This is one of the many matrixes that will have to be made in order to decide what the best plan of action is stepping forward.

A: The People Think that Climate Is a real thing and support causes to fight it.

B: The People don’t think that Climate change is real.

D: Government Supports Climate Change and creates laws to fight it.

C: Government Denys the notion of climate change and prevents laws from being created.

Justification of Values:

(A,D): The Values for this box is (10,10) because, the people will benefit greatly through supporting climate change and will save the environment and will gain huge success in limiting natural disasters and cleaner breathing conditions. The Government will get re-elected with the support of the people.

(A,C): The Values for this Box is (8,5) because, If the people continue to fight for climate change the process will be slow, and the laws will not support them so it is an 8. If the Government has a different perspective than the people then their will unlikely be a re-election for the government and they will suffer heavily.

(B,D): The Values for this Box is (6,5) because, If the people do not support climate change much isn’t likely going to happen in terms of saving the environment. Laws could be placed that could help guide the people toward climate change, but not for long. The people will not support a re-election of the government and thus the government suffers heavily and in future so does the people’s health and security from Climate Chang.e

(B,C): The Values for this Box is (4,7) because, If the people and Government both deny climate change then their will be major health and security issues from the Climate and pollution. TheGovernment has same beliefs as people and will likely see a re-election, however, they too are people and will suffer some effects of the Climate Change.

The Solution:

Solution 1: Pareto Optimality:

The Pareto Optimal Solution is to Support Climate Change, for both players. For this matrix we choose the Pareto optimality solution because it is the solution that benefits both players. Players being the people and the government.

If we graph out the Pareto Optimality, It is clear that the best solution lies in the 10,10. Which is Supporting climate change for people and for the government.

Solution 2: Nash Equilibrium:

Another way we can solve this is through the Nash Equilibrium. We can solve this Nash Equilibrium by using Movement Diagrams.

Through the Nash Equilibrium we find that the Solution is in square (A,D) or (10,10), which is the value for People to support climate change and for the Government to support Climate Change. Notice how this value is the same as that of in the Pareto Optimality. This indicates that these solutions are solved in a strict sense.

Call to Action:

By looking at Climate change through the lens of Game theory, it is evident that people and the government must support the idea of climate change. The government are elected by the people and the step one for the people is to register to vote. This would make sure that the people that are chosen to office are those that are represented in the beliefs of the people. Another thing that people can do in order to continue the fight against climate change is to increase awareness and volunteer themselves in local parks.
